    Statement

I studied at Plymouth College of Art and Design and have exhibited throughout the South West, South Wales and Brittany. My work is held in both private and public collections.

As a sculptor I utilise found or recycled materials in my work and in 2007 my sculpture 'Green Green House' was awarded the 'Best Art' prize from South West Water in Trail (Teignmouth Recycled Art in the Landscape).www.trail.org.uk. In 2009 I won the most popular public vote for my outdoor sculpture.

I love depicting the human form and my work is strong, lively and humorous. I strive to find narrative in my work - some political content is evident yet above all the result has to have aesthetic appeal.

I create installation work and paint semi-abstract canvases in oils or mixed media. My landscape and seascape works are broadly appealing, mixing identifiable elements and abstract features that lend the work an original slant. Combining all these aspects with a sensitive approach to colour and texture, my work is exciting, surprising and enduring.

    Biography

    22 August 2007
HERALD EXPRESS 21ST AUGUST 2007 "JANE'S GOT A LOT OF BOTTLE ...1,000 TO BE PRECISE 11:00 - 21 August 2007 An eco-friendly artist from Teignmouth has scooped a top prize for her greenhouse made of 'trash'. Sculptor Jane Burt's eye-catching artwork, displayed as part of the hugely successful TRAIL exhibition, has generated plenty of debate. Now she has landed £1,000 and a trophy for her innovative efforts of constructing the exhibit using 1,000 recycled plastic bottles, collected from friends and the local recycling centre. This year's TRAIL, sponsored by South West Water, is well underway. The eco-artwork dotted along the South West Coast Path between Teignmouth and Dawlish has been capturing the imagination of passers-by. The utility company offered a £1,000 prize and trophy to the artwork which best encourages responsible environmental action. Jane's 'Green Green House' sculpture won for its green messages and artistic value. Jane, 55, said: "The green house has a wonderful fluidity and luminosity while creating a harmonious link to its natural surroundings. "In this climate of enhanced conservational awareness, it is exciting to bring a practical element to recycled materials whether it be inspirational, educational or regenerative. "I trust I have demonstrated trash can be transformed into a beautiful building that sparkles and shimmers in the sun while conserving heat and rainwater." Jane's exhibit is on show in the grounds of Dawlish's Langstone Cliff Hotel.
